Paul started in the real estate industry in 1989 at the peak of the real estate boom. With the introduction of adjustable rate mortgages, he left selling Real Estate to become a mortgage consultant. Many financial institutions began selling adjustable rate mortgages with no consumer protection, such as those with yearly adjustable rates and no annual or lifetime cap on interest rate changes. The industry took on the feel of the Wild West and Paul Schlanger created a consulting business to help people select a mortgage that provided protection
Paul said that it really hit home when a friend called him in a panic. After just one year, his 6.5% adjustable rate mortgage had suddenly jumped to 15%, and he was unable to afford it. Paul really wanted to help people avoid the situation that his friend was in, so he started to concentrate on guiding people to navigate the mortgage selection process and select the right adjustable rate mortgage. Some products did provide consumer protection, and Paul made sure people understood that many of the "teaser rate" adjustable mortgages had interest rates that would double or triple the following year. Later, these mortgages began providing consumer protections in the form of annual and lifetime caps on interest rates. It was then that Paul made his exit from the mortgage business and went into technology, founding World Wide Web Solutions Inc.
Paul realized that the Real Estate industry hadn't changed because of technology, and he couldn’t understand why Realtors were still marketing the same way and still charging the same commissions. His goal was to revolutionize real estate marketing, so in early 2018, he founded the eRealty Group at 93 Realty.
